A Trip of a Lifetime

"This started out as only a medical mission to help a few people with teeth extractions who needed dental care," says volunteer Star Ferguson.

For her, this journey began 15 years ago as a mother/daughter project.

"I wanted to do something with my daughter that would be a helpful project to our relationship and also helpful to other people," says Ferguson.

Now nine members of her family have joined the Zambia Mission, including her niece.

"I think it's a good thing for a person to branch out and experience different things so they're not in the same environment all the time," says Alexis Light.

For the people of Zambia, the much needed help is welcomed with open arms.

"We have about 3,000 people that will just show up and expect medical care because we've invited them to come," she explains.

Their presence is an immediate improvement to the needs of the Zambians and in some cases, life saving.

"A lady came in the after noon being pulled in a cart by an ox, and she had one baby in her arm and the other baby couldn't be born. And so she had come to us for help," says Ferguson.

The medical team was able to save the woman and both of her children, an act that put everything in perspective for Mrs. Ferguson.

"For me the blessing is being able to work with something so much bigger than myself. It's not just about me, it's about my gift, my piece that fits in this puzzle that god has created," she explains.

In just a few months, these boxes will perform miracles for not just the Zambians, but for anyone willing to help.
