Meals on Wheels Plus Take on Challenge Grant

By: Press Release
Updated: February 4, 2013
The Meals on Wheels Plus (MOW) Board of Directors is excited that a foundation based in Austin is offering a challenge grant for the "Groceries On Wheels" program.

This special program captured the interest of the Carl C. Anderson, Sr. & Marie Jo Anderson Charitable Foundation. Knowing that it would cost $30,000 to fund "Groceries on Wheels" for twelve months, the Foundation has offered MOW a $10,000 challenge grant. Once MOW raises $20,000 for "Groceries on Wheels," the Foundation will send their $10,000.

MOW provides home delivered meals Monday through Friday for 1042 elderly and adults with disabilities in the Abilene, Hamby, Hawley, Hodges and Potosi area. "Groceries on Wheels" is available to some 215 of the neediest MOW clients who live on a limited budget and cannot afford enough food for their evening/weekend meals. It helps clients stretch their resources as they struggle with paying for housing, utility bills and medical expenses. Often there just isn't enough money left to buy food for an entire month.

MOW is asking those interesting in giving to be generous. MOW meet the challenge. Mark your gift for "Groceries on Wheels." Remember that a $100 gift becomes $150. A $1,000 donation becomes $1500.

Contributions for "Groceries on Wheels" should be mailed to Meals on Wheels Plus at P. O. Box 903 - Abilene, TX 79604.

Particiants may also make a gift online by visiting www.mealsonwheelsplus.com, or over the phone at (325) 672-5050.

Stop by Meals on Wheels at 717 North 10th Street - Abilene.
