Updated: February 4, 2013
Sunday night just after 10 p.m., a wanted man out of Missouri led law enforcement on a high-speed chase along I-20 in Mitchell County.

The suspect bailed at the 202 mile marker, and fled on foot. After a long search, officers were unable to locate the man. A female passenger with him was arrested; she did not run from the car.

A Mitchell County Deputy received very minor injuries during the incident, and was treated and released at a local emergency room.

Monday morning, the fugitive, Kerry Wade Helstein, was spotted again, and taken into custody about 10:15 a.m.

Helstien is facing charges of aggravated Assault on a peace officer and Evading arrest with Vehicle (felony), as well as facing possible other charges from Missouri.

My husband who was driving a truck was the one who spotted this man and turned him in.
