Taylor County Sheriff Shares His Stance on Gun Control

Updated: February 5, 2013
The Taylor County Sheriff is sharing his stance on gun control.

Sheriff Ricky Bishop says he's received letters from constituents asking if he'd take any action on gun control legislation proposed by President Obama.

The sheriff says he plans to protect the rights of his people to own and carry guns.

He's joined a growing number of sheriffs who say they won't enforce any legislation that takes guns away from people who already own them.

Sheriff Bishop is in full support of a bill proposed in the Texas legislature that challenges the president's plan.

The proposal would ban statewide any federal ban on assault weapons and high capacity magazines.

It would also allow Texas police officers to arrest federal law enforcement officers attempting to enforce a ban in the state.
