Grand Jury 'No Bills' Infant Death

A Shackelford County grand jury determined Monday morning that there is not adequate evidence to indict anyone in the suffocation death of a local infant which occurred last October.

"The grand jury spent some time studying it, and made their decision before noon," according to Shackelford County District Attorney Joe Edd Boaz.

This brings to a conclusion the required investigation of the death of seven-week-old Iain Asher Sanchez.

According to Albany police chief Jason Price, the no bill was not unexpected as the coroner's report showed no evidence of trauma, previous injury, neglect or foul play. According to District Attorney Joe Edd Boaz, he presented the case to the grand jury as a matter of policy.

"It's my policy to take any death like this to the jury. To me, it looked like a really sad, tragic accident, but I wanted more eyes to look at it," Boaz said Tuesday.

The grand jury concurred that the baby was accidentally suffocated as he and his father slept in the same bed
