The new rest areas are being constructed just east of Ranger near the top of Ranger Hill.
Workers are now beginning construction for traffic going both east and west.
The new rest areas will have climate controlled rest rooms and information kiosks.
They will also have covered picnic tables, walking trails and play areas for children.
TxDOT officials say the number of traffic accidents that were attributed to driver fatigue has dropped by about 13 percent in the last five years, and they want to give drivers more opportunities to take a break from the road.
