A north Abilene man faces several charges after a shoplifting escalated into a more serious robbery case.

It started as a shoplifting about 11 o'clock Thursday night at the south Abilene Walmart store.

Employees told police that the man left without paying for some merchandise.

They tried to stop him, but he threatened to shoot the employees.

That increased the charge from a misdemeanor theft to a felony.

Police later saw a vehicle that matched the description of the one the man was driving, and police stopped the driver, arresting him near the intersection of Ambler Avenue and the Winters Freeway.

Police charged 28-year-old Jason Lozano with robbery, theft and with a state jail felony theft charge.
