ABILENE -- East Central scored five runs in the third inning to break open a scoreless game and held on from there to take a 10-5 win over ACU in the finale of a four-game non-conference baseball series at Crutcher Scott Field.

The Tigers' win on Sunday forced a split of the series and pushed them to 4-5 on the season.  The Wildcats, meanwhile, are 4-4 after splitting each of their first two four-game series of the season.  ACU will be off until next Sunday when the Wildcats take on McMurry at Walt Driggers Field.

East Central posted five runs in the third inning, all of them charged to ACU starting itcher Austin Palmer (0-2 on the season).  Palmer lasted just 2 1/3 innings and give up five runs (all earned) on five hits while walking three and hitting one batter.  He allowed a two-run ground-rule double to Justin Sutherland that broke the game open and gave the Tigers a 4-0 lead.

The Tigers added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings before ACU answered with two runs in the fifth on an RBI doub le by Seth Spivey and an RBI single by Tyler Eager to cut the lead to 7-2.  But the Tigers ended any realistic hopes of an ACU comeback with a three-spot in the top of the ninth to make it 10-2.  The Wildcats added three cosmetic runs in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI double by Spivey, an error that scored Spivey and a Chuck Duarte RBI single.

The Wildcats didn't have trouble getting runners on base on Sunday as they collected eight hits, four walks, two hit batters and reached on one error.  But as was the case all weekend, they had trouble getting those runners around the bases.

ACU left 10 runners on base on Sunday and 34 in the four-game series. Of the Wildcats' 27 outs in Sunday's game, 13 of them came via popout our fly ball out.

Spivey collected a pair of doubles, two runs scored and two RBI in Sunday's contest, while Eager had two hits and an RBI.
