We have got a great match up coming to Abilene on Friday night in girls basketball. The Jim Ned Lady Indians are getting ready to take on the 2nd ranked Merkel Lady Badgers.

Jim Ned was the co-district champion in their district this year, but they didn't get the bye in the 1st round. Some teams would have let that get them down, but head coach Hunter Cooley says his team needed the extra playoff game.

Coach Cooley said, "I think it gave the girls an opportunity to get into the playoffs, instead of having to sit and wait and watch a game. We've got several seniors but we don't have a lot of playoff experience, so it was a good opportunity for us there."

"Our district schedule had to prepare us. I mean, Brady and Wall are as good as there are in the state. That's 4 good games you get in district, for sure. Early and Ballinger were playoff teams from the year before. All of those games are highly competitive," Cooley added.

The Lady Indians have their hands full on Friday night with Merkel. The Lady Badgers beat Jim Ned in their meeting earlier this year. Jim Ned is ranked 7th. Merkel is 2nd. The game is at McMurry at 8.
