A new collection of stories capturing the unique character of Abilene will be released at a special event hosted by The Grace Museum on Thursday, February 21.

Abilene Stories: From Then to Now offers a collection of over a hundred colorful stories told by seventy residents who have called Abilene home from the early settlement days through today.
Abilene Stories will be released at the February "Museum Matters" event at The Grace Museum taking place Thursday, February 21.

The event will begin with a book reading in the Grand Ballroom at 7 p.m. followed by a book signing. Prominent members of the Abilene community, including the contributing authors whose stories are told in the book, have been invited to the event which is open to the public.

Although Abilene has long lived in the shadows of the literary limelight, it has not been for a lack of good writing, good writers, or interesting stories. Now coming out of the shadows, Abilene Stories: From Then to Now offers a community scrapbook, a gathering of the civic congregation where more than one hundred friends have stopped by for a visit. The laughter is robust and the smiles broad as stories are told and memories jogged.

Book chapters include: "Let Them Eat Cactus," "A Hanging in Abilene," "Too Much Jazz and Not Enough Jesus," "How Camp Barkeley Shaped Abilene," "Alligator on the Loose," "Howitzer on the Hill," "Circlin' Mack's," "The Crepe Myrtle Sex Scandal," and "The Last Day at Harold's."
