Last minute preparations are all that's left before Kathy Cheatham begins her journey to Hattiesburg--a journey that will impact so many.

"We go up and down the streets of the affected areas and help those who are working on the streets, trying to salvage whatever they have left", says Cheatham.

After about eleven hours of travel, Kathy and her other Red Cross partners will come face to face with the devastation left behind by Sunday's tornado, that flattened a university, and damaged over 800 homes.

"It's a disaster for them, and I have so much. They just need help", explains Cheatham.

Once they arrive, they plan to stock up on necessities after evaluating the needs.

"We'll gather snacks, water and cleanup kits", Cheatham tells us.

Though the disaster response vehicle will leave Abilene empty, it will arrive in Mississippi ready to fill Hattiesburg with hope.

Officials estimate it will take tens of millions of dollars to repair the damage from the tornado.

Volunteers from the Abilene Red Cross tell us they plan to work in Hattiesburg for at least two weeks.
