"It was a couple of days of cold sandwiches," said Michael Richardson through a phone interview as he was headed off the Carnival Triumph and finally headed home.
They spent seven days on a cruise that was meant for three.
That would normally be a good thing, except this time it was because they were stranded at sea after a fire on ship left them without electricity, not much to eat and some even having to sleep on deck.
"There was limited toiletries on board and we did have running water so that helped with showers, but some of the people on lower deck did lose their rooms and they had to sleep outside," explained Richardson, "the water clotted up their place to sleep and that was really inconvenient for them."
The Brownwood couple got to sleep in their rooms and for the most part just did a whole lot of waiting.
"Played a lot of solitaire," he said.
Until just beyond the horizon, their rescue came.
But even that came with a few bumps along the way.
"One of the tugboats broke the cable off and set the clock back to get that situated and the currents and the tides were working against them," said Richardson.
Yet it didn't stop the Richardsons' from keeping positive, even upbeat enough to consider taking another cruise.
"Absolutely we'll take another cruise," said Richardson.
Maybe just not anytime soon.
