Tournament of Brains

About 65 students from all across the Big Country gathered to compete in the five round event. Young chess wizards from the age of seven all the way to 18, quietly plotted ways to take down their opponents.

For one young boy, it's not just about winning he says the game of chess has taught him invaluable life lessons.

" You can't let fear take over your mind. You have to do exactly what you want to do. You have to make sure they can't break through your defense. You need to make sure you're not going to do any poor moves," says William Hampton, a fourth grader at Taylor Elementary.

Awards were given out based on age categories and one young man was crowned the Abilene ISD Grand Champion.
