Wildcats Gain Inspiration from Former ACU Student, Recovered Quadriplegic

A former ACU student revisits the campus today with an inspirational speech for current Wildcats.

After a severe stroke her sophomore year, she became quadriplegic, however, Nika Maples has since come a long way.

19 years later, she says through prayer and physical therapy, she is able to walk again and hopes her story will serve as a motivation for other young people to never give up in the face of difficult circumstances.

She spoke with us earlier Monday about her emotional journey.

"I am hardly even the same person that I was 19 years ago," Maple recounts. "Sometimes it takes a difficult time of training to bring you to a maturity."

Maples was diagnosed at a young age with lupus, and has an account of her medical battles in her new book "Twelve Clean Pages."
