It's a concern we hear about all the time across west Texas. High winds mixed with low humidities is the perfect recipe to help any small fire spread rapidly. Which is why dozens of registered firefighters spent the day at a basic firefighter training.

A large 100 acre plot of land was gradually ignited at Camp Bowie in Brownwood so that the firefighters could learn about fire behavior and what procedures have to be put in place for their own safety.

And while the in-class portion of the training has been going on since last week, this burning exercise was the ultimate opportunity for these firefighters to apply their skills, as well as spend some time working with firefighters in and out of the Big Country.

In Texas alone, more than 14,000 communities are at risk for wildfires, majority of which are caused by humans.
