APD: Creditor Call Alerts Elderly Couple to Fraud

Monday afternoon at about 12:10, Officer Matthew Allen was contacted by a citizen at the Law Enforcement Center reporting alleged fraud. Officer Allen's preliminary investigation revealed that someone had opened a credit card account in her elderly husband's name without his knowledge. This crime allegedly occurred several years prior and a creditor was seeking payment on said account. The reporting party suspects a grandson is responsible. A report for the felony offense of Fraudulent Use of Identifying Information was taken. This investigation continues.
Monday night at about 10:35, Officer Paul Martinez contacted a motorist in the 1200 block of N. Mockingbird Lane for a traffic violation. A K-9 officer assisted on this traffic stop. Officer Martinez contacted the male driver and during the preliminary investigation the K-9 alerted on the vehicle for the presence of narcotics. The vehicle was also occupied by a female passenger. Both subjects were searched. A search of the male revealed that he possessed a small quantity of marijuana. A search of the female subject revealed she was in possession of five pills and a small quantity of marijuana. The pills tested positive as a controlled substance. The male subject was arrested for misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana. The female subject was arrested for felony Possession of a Controlled Substance (Ecstasy) and for misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana.
Tuesday morning at about 12:40, Officer Jonathan Merrick contacted a motorist in the 3600 block of North 10 Street who had performed a couple of traffic violations that included failure to drive in a single lane. During the preliminary investigation, Officer Merrick contacted the male driver and smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver. Officer Merrick also observed that the driver displayed indicators of intoxication. The driver conducted standard field sobriety tests which he performed poorly. The male driver was arrested and taken to county jail where he provided breath samples. Breath samples taken revealed the driver's BAC to be 0.142 and 0.148. The driver was arrested for misdemeanor DWI.
