Area Roadways Scheduled for Crack Sealing

By: Press Release
Updated: February 20, 2013
Crews will be sealing pavement cracks on several roadways in Taylor and Callahan Counties in the coming weeks.

Work will begin the last week of February in Callahan County on I-20 and FM 603.

Crews will then work on various locations in Taylor County on I-20, I-20 Business and US 83 (Winters Freeway), including major intersections along the Winters Freeway.

Work at intersections will require brief daytime closures of turnarounds and lane reductions.

Short-term ramp closures will also occur on some freeway ramps. Drivers should be cautious when traveling through work zones and follow directions from flaggers.

Crack sealing preserves the life of a roadway by applying sealing material directly into the cracks of the pavement to prevent moisture damage. TxDOT's Abilene District usually schedules the work annually during the cooler months.

Austimpactors of Austin will complete the work for about $79,000.

The project should be finished by the end of March.
