APD: Man Arrested for Three Offenses Following Traffic Violation

Wednesday afternoon at about 5 p.m., Officer Matthew Allen was contacted by a citizen at the Law Enforcement Center who wanted to report an offense that had occurred at a residence in the 2000 block of South Clack Street. The male victim told Officer Allen that a former roommate was in possession of several items of the victim's property that had not been returned. The victim estimated the value of said property to be $600 and that the property had been in the known subject's possession since earlier this month. A report for misdemeanor Theft was taken and this investigation continues.
Wednesday night at about 7 p.m., Officer Martin Walker responded to a shoplifter call at a business in the 1600 block of Highway 351. APD dispatch had been notified by a loss prevention employee that he had detained a female subject for alleged theft. Officer Martin's preliminary investigation revealed that the subject was observed by the reporting party acting suspiciously inside the store. The employee then saw the subject select a TV that she placed in a shopping cart. The subject was then observed walking to the front of the store after passing all points of sale without making payment for the TV. The subject was stopped as she exited the store. A 42-inch TV valued at approximately $378 was recovered. The subject was arrested for misdemeanor Theft and warned not to return to the store.
Wednesday night at about 11:25 p.m, Officer Andrew Valdez contacted a motorist in the 1600 block of North 5 Street for a traffic violation; the vehicle was traveling the wrong way on a one-way street. The male driver of the vehicle was contacted during the preliminary investigation and Officer Valdez smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver. The investigation also revealed that the driver displayed indicators of intoxication. The driver conducted a field sobriety test but refused to conduct any others. He performed poorly on the test conducted. The driver was arrested and during a search of the vehicle a marijuana grinder containing a useable amount of marijuana was discovered. A records check also revealed the driver was operating a vehicle while his license was suspended. The driver refused to provide a sample of his breath. The driver was arrested for three misdemeanor offenses: DWI, Possession of Marijuana and Driving While License Invalid.
