Brown County emergency responders were called to the scene of a one-vehicle accident near Giles Trade Lot on Highway 67 between Brownwood and Bangs on Thursday night around 7 PM.  Scanner reports indicate that the passenger car was traveling east when it ran off the road, rolled and ended up several yards off the roadway.

Law enforcement arrived on scene to find the driver of the vehicle had left the scene of the accident and was possibly picked up by another vehicle.

According to Brown County Sheriff's officials, the driver of the Nissan Altima involved in Thursday night's rollover crash on Hwy 67 was found to have been traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle and went off the roadway.

According to BCSO Sargeant John Fincher, the vehicle left the roadway, it threw up dirt and debris which struck a Ford Explorer that was traveling behind the Nissan. This debris broke the front driver's side windshield, a head light and the mirror on the driver's side of the Explorer, and entered the vehicle injuring its female driver, said Fincher. The extent of the woman's injuries was not released Friday. The driver of the Explorer drove to the Brownwood Law Enforcement center where emergency responders met her.

According to Fincher, the driver of the Nissan exited the vehicle after it crashed and rolled, and began walking toward Brownwood and called friends to come and pick him up.

Bangs Chief of Police Troy Gruesendorf recognized the description of the vehicle as one which had been parked at a residence in Bangs, so he went to the house to investigate, Fincher reported.  The resident of the home answered the door and had injuries consistent with having been in a recent auto accident and was found to have been the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash, he stated. The driver, was identified at that time as 37-year-old Willie Walter Calvin, Jr. of Bangs, and was also found to be intoxicated, according to officials.  Calvin was arrested for felony driving while intoxicated 3rd or more.
