A Fort Myers, Florida teenager is accused of attacking his father with a hatchet in the middle of the night.

Lee County deputies say after getting the call, they raced to the home and found blood covering the walls and floor.

They arrested Ernest Sherwood, Jr., a senior at Cypress Lake High School.

His father now has a bandage on his head, deep cuts and bruises on his face.

Ernie Sherwood recalled what happened when he woke-up from his couch in the middle of the night.

"It was a thing, an accident, it should have never happened - period," said Sherwood.

He told detectives his only son "appeared to be angry at something" and charged at him.

Yet despite his injuries, Ernie Sr. told deputies he did not want to file charges. He insisted he's not on drugs or on any prescriptions and says he still doesn't know why his son attacked.

When asked what he wanted people to know about his son Sherwood responded that "he's a great son. He's always been a good son and hopefully always will be. This situation we just have to get through."
