New Evidence Surfaces in "The Wade Incident"

A couple of weeks ago, we told you that the investigation into what the City of Breckenridge is calling "The Wade Incident" was closed.

However, we have obtained new evidence which proves that then Sheriff-Elect Billy Wade was "tasered" and pepper sprayed after he assaulted a female Breckenridge police officer

KTAB's Victor Sotelo broke the story last November and continues to follow the unfolding of "The Wade Incident."

After we were told that the investigation was closed, we were able to ask for more documentation about the November 20th incident at the golf course, and we received more dash cam video. 

The video you are going to watch is unedited and uncut, and the only enhancement we have made is to make it bigger so that it will be easier to see what is on the video.

Officer Bruce Hay was responding to a call for help from Breckenridge Officer Jennifer Adams, and when he arrives on the scene he sees Officer Adams and the then Sheriff-Elect Breckenridge police officer Billy Wade, who is off duty and intoxicated, in a physical confrontation.

Wade does not comply with orders, but instead gives his own orders and, if you notice, you can see the red laser dot from Officer Hay's "taser" he had drawn and pointed at Wade.

Officer Adams then proceeds to tell Officer Hay exactly what took place.

What we still do not know is how she knew he was at the secluded golf course and why she was there.

The police department said an internal investigation was done and everyone who was involved, with the exception of Jennifer Adams, is no longer working there, so no disciplinary action was taken.

The Chief said, with the release of this video, he was concerned with the reputation of Officer Adams.

Adams did not file charges, so Texas Rangers did not investigate, but did recommend that the District Attorney ask for a special investigator from the Attorney General's office.

The Attorney General's office said there was not enough evidence to proceed with an investigation.

We plan to go to them and ask why, and ask if they saw the video.

A group of Breckenridge citizens gathered to watch the recently obtained video of their sheriff being detained by police.  

KTAB's Brendaliss Gonzalez took a look at their reactions.  

There was a look of surprise on many of the Breckenridge citizens faces as they watch a newly obtained video of their sheriff being detained by police officers, moments after being pepper sprayed and even "tased".

"I feel that it should go to executive session so that we could discuss it," said Breckenridge commissioner Harvey Green.

Green wanted to address this back when it first came to light, but that didn't happen.

"The only time that that occurred was not a discussion about the operation of the police department, but to inform the commission members that there was nothing to view on the tape that there was nothing that actually went on at the golf course," said Green .

Someone in the group asked him directly, "You were told this by who?"

"By the city manager," Green responded.

He was asked to clarify, "The city manager told you that there was nothing to review on the tape and that nothing actually happened?"
 
"That's correct," he responded.

Yet, the images and sounds don't lie.

It's a reality that leaves them with an urgency to take action.

"I think it's corrupt, I think we need to clean them out and I think we need some new city commissioners," said Breckenridge resident Tommy Wimberley. 

After watching the video more than once, the verdict is clear.

They agree the tape clears up some of what happened that night, but not all.

"You know this is the way Breckenridge is done," said Wimberley, "We sweep it under the rug if it's someone they don't want to get."
