Friends, Family Start Scholarship Fund For Crash Victim

Hundreds of students gathered at Abilene Christian University to celebrate and honor the life of 20 year-old Lindsey Smith.
She died last month in a car accident.
Some of her colleagues are heading up the "Red Boot Roundup", a benefit dance concert for Smith's scholarship funds.
The dance was free, but t-shirts were sold to raise funds for the scholarship.
The Muddy Creek Band played at the event for free as a way to help out.
The band was one of Smith's favorites and her friends thought it would be a great way to remember her.
"They play a lot at Oplin, which is a place where she loved to go dance and it was actually where they were headed during the accident so it's definitely a blessing to have them here," said Zach Stomberg, one of Smith's friends.
"It's incredibly important this is our way to celebrate her life," said Anna Fullerton, also a close friend of Smith's.
The night didn't just consist of dancing.
Students also had a time of worship, that's something they say smith loved doing.
staff members say the dance is one way to help students cope with the loss of a friend and classmate.
"It's not going to one hundred percent heal individuals but its going to be an outlet for them and its going to be a great outlet for her friends to all come together again and show their love and support for Lindsey and Lindsey's family," said Mark Jackson, a staff member at ACU.
They also raised funds for the scholarship by setting cowboy boots around the room for anyone to leave a donation in.
It's still unsure whether the scholarship will be used for one particular student, a group or organization, but smith's parents will help determine that later on.
