FAA Outlines Possible Effects of Sequestration on Airports, Travelers

By: BCH News Staff
Updated: February 25, 2013
In order to prepare for the possibility of major cuts due to the looming government sequestering of funds on March 1, the FAA has released a letter describing efforts being made to prepare for the possible cuts.

The plan is to reduce spending by about $600 million for the remainder of 2013. These cuts will affect all levels of FAA employees including furloughs, the elimination of midnight shifts at some control towers and the possible closure of air traffic control facilities at certain airports across the country.

The letter warns passengers that this could result in fewer or rescheduled flights at some airports, as well as longer delays.

The FAA has made no final decisions at this point, but will be discussing any and all possible reductions in staff and operations in what they call an "ongoing dialogue" with their unions and airspace users with the best interest of travelers in mind.

The letter also includes a list of airports, by state, who may be affected by the elimination of midnight shifts and / or the possible closure of air traffic control facilities.

The FAA letter is the most irresponible action the government has taken in a long time. Well maybe not that long. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid. Yet another thing to bring this country down.
