Sequestration, Civilian Military Furloughs Could Hit Close to Home in Abilene

If government sequestration takes place on March 1, the massive cuts to military funding may hit close to home in Abilene.

President Obama has blocked sequestration from affecting funding for military personnel, but the cuts could seriously affect civilian employees in the form of massive furloughs.

Dyess Air Force Base alone currently employs 380 appropriated-fund civilians who may be affected if no agreement for alternate cuts is made Before March 1.

According to a document released by The White House Press Secretary earlier Monday, an estimated 52,000 DoD civilian employees could be affected in Texas alone.
