it's fairly common to see drivers with their nose in their phones. But pretty soon, it could be illegal.

A bill is being read to legislation this week proposes a ban on texting and driving. And Texas law makers are hopeful that this bill will pass.

"There's been conversation. I think that this session, there's a strong will to pass legislation again and to protect our kids," said Rep. Patricia Harless, District 126.

"They can try to pass it, but i don't know how well it'll work," said Abilene local Brittney Griffin.

Griffin chooses not to use her phone while driving.

"I usually turn my phone off or put it on airplane mode while I drive," she explained.

Saying she's distracted enough by her four children in the car. And that regardless of a new law, she says Texas drivers will still text.

"I don't know how you would keep people from texting and driving if they're going to do it on their own while they're in their car," she said.

Two of her friends were in fender-benders due to distracted driving. And those aren't the only distracted driving accidents Griffin has witnessed.

"I've seen it happen a couple of times in front of me and with people I know. So it's enough for me to not want to text and drive," explained Griffin.

But regardless of what happens in legislative sessions, Griffin says the only fix to distracted driving is for drivers to simply decide not to do it.

"I don't know how you would prevent that," she said. "You can only hope that everybody will quit doing it."
