APD: Truck Found on Fire, Owner Claims it was Stolen

Tuesday night at about 8:25, Officer Jordan Brown responded to a shoplifter call at a business in the 1600 block of Hwy 351. APD dispatch had been notified by a loss prevention employee that he had detained two adults and a juvenile for alleged theft. Officer Brown's preliminary investigation revealed that all three subjects had been observed by loss prevention unwrapping merchandise, concealing same, and then passing all points of sale without making payment as they attempted to leave with the merchandise. Approximately $179 in merchandise was recovered. The investigation revealed that the subjects were directly involved in the criminal conduct. A male and female adult subject were arrested for misdemeanor Theft. The juvenile was released into the custody of a guardian.
Tuesday night at about 9:20, Officer Matt Allen responded to Lake Fort Phantom (600 block of Johnson Road) concerning reports of a vehicle on fire. Information from the Jones County Sheriff's Office concerning those reports by citizens was relayed to APD dispatch. Abilene Fire Department crews also responded and extinguished the fire. During the preliminary investigation the vehicle's registered owner was identified. There was no one located inside the vehicle. The registered owner was contacted and he alleged the vehicle had been taken without his permission from a family business by unknown persons. An AFD arson investigator was summoned to the scene to assist APD. A Theft report for the recovered stolen vehicle was taken. This investigation continues.
Wednesday morning at about 12:35 a.m., Officer Mary Guitar contacted a motorist in the 3500 block of Curry Lane for a traffic violation. Officer Guitar contacted the male driver and she immediately noticed that the driver displayed indicators of intoxication and she smelled the very strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver. The driver told Officer Guitar that he had been drinking. The driver refused Officer Guitar's offer for him to perform standard field sobriety tests. The driver was arrested for misdemeanor DWI and refused to provide a specimen of his breath.
