The Merkel Lady Badgers are about to play on the big state of the Erwin Center in Austin for the 1st time in school history.

Merkel has been good in other years, and they have come close, but the 2013 version is the team that broke through. That fact is starting to sink in, and now they want to get the championship.

Allison Szabo said, "It took a little bit to sink in the 1st few days. Everyone still couldn't believe it, still, but we're ready now, and it's just amazing. Every day we come in here, and we are lucky to still be practicing. I think we are pretty ready."

Coach Clay Barnett adds, "This is Merkel's 1st opportunity to go to Austin, so there's a lot of excitement there. Hopefully the girls can stay grounded. I want the girls to enjoy it and soak in the moment, but we are going to go over there and try to win a basketball game."

The Lady Badgers try to win that basketball game on Friday Morning at 10. Merkel is #2 in the state. The opponent, Poth, is 15th.
