Tina Walker and her staff prepare for a busy lunch hour, hopeful that major construction and some rerouting will bring in new customers. But that hasn't been the case.

"We were expecting it. And so, it was a little disappointing but we didn't want any of the businesses on the highway to suffer either," she said.

Walker's Crossing is located on Ambler, which is part of TXDot's recommended detour routes and they convert frontage roads along I-20 to one-way. And that rerouting had businesses worried.

"I think that a lot of people were worried that it would negatively impact the businesses on the highway. That they might be routed around them or bypass them," Walked explained.

Though few, the restaurant has had some new faces walk in.

"We have had a  new customers," she said. "We have people coming in during the lunch run and they say that this is their first time here. And so, there's a possibility that some of them are from the highway."

And for Walker, it's okay that little has changed.

"It lets me know that everything is perfectly sovereigned and ordained. It does. I think that the customers that we have, we have have a lot of repeat business, and they keep us afloat," said Walker.

As construction continues, the staff is still hopeful that the construction will bring in some new customers, but they aren't holding their breath.

"Not expecting it but any business is welcome. And so, if it effects us, that would be great," Walker said.
