Merkel Residents Gather to Cheer on Lady Badgers

It was a big day for the Merkel Lady Badgers as they played and won their state UIL game in Austin.

Seniors at the Merkel nursing center were given a watch party so they too could cheer on the home team, but it wasn't just for the patients at the nursing center.

"We thought that we would invite all those members of the community that couldn't go to Austin to come out and celebrate with us," said administrator Patrick Young.

The nursing center also held a Texas Independence Day celebration by serving good Texas food and screening John Wayne's "The Alamo."
