FARMER BRANCH, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' softball team dropped a pair of games at the American Southwest
Conference First Pitch Tournament in Farmer's Branch, falling 12-6 to LeTourneau
and 9-1 in five innings to East Texas Baptist.
In the first game,
LeTourneau scored two runs in the first inning and Anna Winter and Sara
Whitehead had RBI singles. HSU answered with one run as Sarah Truelove scored on
a passed ball after leading off with a double and moving to third on a sacrifice
bunt.
Juliana Tuel had an
RBI single in the second for LU and the Yellowjackets opened up the game with
five runs in the fourth inning.
HSU added a pair of
runs in the fifth inning. Mac Clay had a bases loaded walk and Truelove scored
on a wild pitch.
LeTourneau scored a
pair of runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Kara LeLeux had a two-run home
run for HSU in the sixth inning and Julia Bradley had an RBI double in the
seventh.
Brittany Acosta fell
to 1-4 allowing 10 runs on 11 hits in five innings for HSU. Bradley had three of
the six HSU hits.
Chloe Cooper had three
hits to pace the 16-hit attack for LU. Taylor Thibodeaux earned the win in the
circle to improve to 5-0 with six innings of work.
In the nightcap ETBU
outhit the Cowgirls 10-2 to cruise to the run-rule win.
HSU scored its only
run in the bottom of the first on a Bradley RBI single.
Hank had three hits,
drove in four runs and worked a complete game in the circle allowing one run and
striking out six.
Carol Swindell fell to
1-5 with the loss in the circle. She allowed nine runs on 10 hits.
The Cowgirls are now
2-9-1 and will open ASC West action next weekend at Texas Lutheran.
