Davis Represents War Hawks at USA Track & Field Indoor Championships

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - McMurry University shot putter Paul Davis, making his first appearance in a USA Track and Field event, failed to reach the finals at the 2013 USATF Indoor Championships held at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Davis threw 11th out of the 12 competitors in the field, just ahead of US defending champion Ryan Whiting.

Davis fouled on all three of his preliminary throws and, without getting a mark, did not have a chance to advance to the finals (reserved for the top eight places after the first three rounds of throws).  The results were uncharacteristic for Davis, who set a McMurry indoor record of 62' 1" just three weeks ago.

"In this sport you are going to have highs and lows," said McM throws coach Jerry Johnson. "Unfortunately, today was extremely low for Paul. But he will learn from this. Most of these guys are older. Paul has to throw in this type of competition to get used to it and relax and get better.

"Lots of people wish they were here, but didn't throw well enough to get here.  We're all proud of Paul and this will help him down the road. He is going to continue to get better and better."
