A special ceremony is scheduled Wednesday morning at the Alamo.

The Mexican army led by General Santa Anna overran the little mission-fortress early in the morning of March 6, 1836.

That was 177 years ago Wednesday morning.

There were more than 180 armed defenders who were all killed in the battle, or immediately after.

Hundreds of Mexican soldiers were also killed in the battle.
