House Saved From Burning in Putnam

Putnam volunteer firefighters saved a house from burning tonight.

Some grass in front of an abandoned home just west of Putnam on the historic Bankhead Highway caught fire. One firefighter that lives near the home smelled the smoke. The flames came within feet of the house and drivers all along 1-20 could see the smoke rising.

The fire did not endanger any occupied homes or buildings, but it may have if not for the firefighters quick action and keen sense of smell.
