God and Sports

It seems like an ordinary camp.
"We're teaching them basically fundamentals of four sports: we're focusing on soccer, football, volley and basketball," says Church.
But this camp has a special twist.
"We have students, college students from across the state of Texas coming to volunteer their spring breaks to reach the kids in Brownwood and share God's love with them," says Church.
Bathrooms are being built for the students to stay in while arts and crafts are being gathered and scoreboards are put up.
All leading to a week filled with sports.
But it's doesn't just stop there.
"In America we talk about how sports helps you in life a lot. And we think sports helps you a lot but sports can only take you so far, Christ can take you all the way," explains Church.
They feel the combination of both is the winning mix to teach children about not just sports or God, but every day life.
"They know what when they're with us at Champ's Camp, we expect them to participate, they're not going to sit on the sidelines. You can't do that in life. Get in and play," says Church.
Every year champ's camp works around one central theme. Last year it was the Olympics, this year it's Duck Dynasty. Except instead of waiting for the duck call, they're listening for God's call.
"At the end of every segment, every show, they're always praying, thanking God for family and friends and the fellowship that they get to share. And I hope it's what this one is going to be about," says volunteer Jim Nance.
Sports, God and little bit of Duck Dynasty. Spring break is getting a whole new meaning.
