A Hawley woman was killed after a violent car wreck on Interstate 20 in Abilene Saturday afternoon.

The deadly accident happened just before 12:30 p.m. near the 3400 block of West Stamford St. in the area where I-20 and the Winters Freeway merge.

According to Abilene Police, a maroon Ford Explorer was heading eastbound on I-20 when it crashed into a white Nissan Quest that was merging onto the Interstate from the Winters Freeway.

The Explorer went off the road and flipped; the driver, 43-year-old Marlinda Beasley was thrown from the vehicle and killed instantly, police said.

No one in the Nissan suffered injuries.

At this point, police believe wet roads may have played a factor in the crash.

Officers said Beasley was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.

The investigation continues.
