The Heat Hits Abilene

New York... Iowa... Paris.... Abilene....

"You got nice hot weather, it's early. Really didn't have much of a winter time," says Saul Olivo.

For him warm weather means fishing, a tradition he's passing to his children.

"My dad did it with us, so I do it with my kids and hopefully they'll do it with their kids," says Olivo.

Saturday's fishing was the perfect ending to his kids Spring Break.

"I'm ready for them to go back to school and get back on their regular schedule," explains Olivo.

Happily enough, the kids also seem to be ready.

"I kinda want to go back to school because I miss my friends," says Saul Olivo Jr.

Saturday's high temperatures mark the official beginning of spring and for many, that means the beginning of gardening season.

"Maybe plant some tomatoes, plant some trees, things like that. I want to do a Japanese garden theme in my back yard," says Bobby Harris.

To him all the sweat, time and effort spent gardening is hardly a chore.

"I like getting out, getting in the yard, enjoy my time off with my wife. It's just time for us to relax," says Bobby Harris.

He hopes the warm weather continues but he wouldn't be surprised is the cold came rushing back.

"Cuz you know Abilene weather is crazy. Our winters have stretched out, our summer's have stretched out. I'm actually glad we finally got a hot day today," says Harris.

A first of the many that are sure to come this summer.

"I just hope my ac don't go out. I can just imagine how hot it's going to be if it's this hot early in the spring," says Olivo.

For now it's 90 degrees and blissful, which is more than half the country can say.
