In their regular season opener, the Abilene Bombers got a taste of what it takes to have a comeback win. With roughly only a week and a half of practice time prior to their 62-61 win over Laredo- it proved this team has a lot of resilience.

But it's still early.. and there is still a lot to do.

"We gave this this week off to kind of rest and re-cooperate mentally and physically," Says Head Coach Joe Brannen, " It was a short camp but we were on the field a lot, so they got a lot of practice time in.  Their bodies are worn out after two games, so it's nice to let them relax a little bit. Let them visit family, do what they need to do. Then we will bring them back and spend the week doing a lot of position type stuff. Working on mechanics, fundamentals and stuff like that that we overlooked with the short camp."

Two weeks of rest and practice time should be beneficial, especially for this years rookies, who on top of learning new plays, are having to learn a whole new form of football.

"We hadn't been in the arena at all until last week before the Laredo game, so really they had a couple days of practice, two games inside the arena to really learn the nuances of the game. But the veteran guys are really helping them speed up their learning curve. They're all attentive, they're here to work and play football, that's all they really want to do so that helps the learning curve as well. Ive been told it takes you about four games to really get yourself from a rookie to a veteran standpoint as far as playing the arena game and knowing the ins and outs of arena football." continues Brannen.

Coach Brannen says he believes if they get at least 4 stops on defense- that will win them ballgames, they did that last Saturday night. that's now got to continue. With your Abilene Bomber's weekly report, I'm Alyssa Orange.
