A woman was shot at a home on Fairmont Street and Lexington Avenue late Saturday evening.

Abilene Police arrived at the scene just after 11 PM, officers say it appears to be an accidental shooting.

The homeowner says he carried a handgun as he entered his house, and thought the woman was an intruder.

He shot her by accident in an attempt to protect himself.

Officer Michael Rafferty of the Abilene Police Department says, "At this point, there appears to be no wrong doing in this matter."

No other injuries were reported.  Police did not reveal the victim's name, but said she is in stable condition, and is being treated at Hendrick Medical Center.
