Amy Erick, an 8th grade math teacher at Madison Middle School was named Wal-Mart's "Teacher of the Year."

The Wal-Mart Team on Southwest Drive walked into Ms. Erick's class at about 1:30 PM to deliver the good news.

Erick was presented with a cake, flowers, balloons, a $1,000 check for the school, and a $100 Wal-Mart Gift Card for herself.

The Wal-Mart Team also brought Jennifer, the student who nominated Erick for "Teacher of the Year."

Jennifer is a new student at Madison Middle School, who has been in Erick's class for the past six weeks, she says thanks to Ms. Erick's teachings, she understands math much better than she did before.

With her upbeat personality and interactive classroom, Erick makes learning fun for her students and strives to make a difference in their lives.

Erick says, "I strive for that everyday, and it's so rewarding to know that it's working!"

Today's class interruption was certainly welcome, but it wasn't the first time Ms. Erick's class was interrupted, earlier this year she was also a recipient of a teaching grant.

Erick says she hopes the school will use the $1,000 from Wal-Mart towards new classroom technology.
