Be a Santa for a Senior

During the holidays, while remembering others, don't forget about the elderly.

Home Instead SeniorCare with Meals on Wheels and Adult Protective Services have teamed up to help Abilene seniors have a Merry Christmas.

A Christmas tree was placed at both entrances of the Wal-Mart, off of Highway 351. The trees have ornaments with the name of an Abilene senior and a gift they either need or want for Christmas.

While shopping for yourself you can purchase a gift, for one of the seniors, and leave it at register 14. During the week it will be picked up and wrapped for your senior.

Darrel Reed, owner of Home Instead Senior Care, explains that the gifts requested range in price from $5 dollars to $25 dollars and are often practical in nature, such as an electric razor for gentlemen that can no longer use a razor blade, electric blankets to keep warm and even gift cards that can later be used to purchase medicine.

The last day to purchase a gift will be December the 15th. And if you cannot purchase a gift, but would like to help, Home Instead Senior Care needs people who are willing to wrap all of the Christmas presents.

To volunteer you can call (325) 670-9610
