Houston Police Officer Killed

 A Houston Police Officer is dead and a suspect in custody after a traffic stop this morning.

The officer's name has not been released, but police say he was shot outside a Houston apartment complex after he pulled a car over and the driver fled on foot around 8:40 a.m.

Police say the driver jumped out of the SUV and ran into the Luxor Apartment Complex with the officer following behind.

 Witnesses say  the suspect then turned around and shot the officer several times.

Police combed the area with a metal detector , where the officer was shot hoping to gather more evidence.

Houston police say the slain officer had entered the license plate of the vehicle he stopped into his computer leaving evidence that cracked the case and lead to the arrest.
