"Choose Life" License Plates

By: Laura Kellerman/RNS
Updated: December 18, 2008
Texas Governor Rick Perry is supporting a bill that would create a "Choose Life" specialty license plate, like the ones shown to the left, to help raise funds for pregnant women considering adoption.

Perry says most Texans believe in the sanctity of life, and the license plate would give them a means to provide support to women who are considering an alternative to abortion for their unborn children.

Officials say the license plate would cost 30-dollars, and 22-dollars of the sale would be given to nonprofit charitable organizations that provide counseling and cover material and health care costs for pregnant women considering adoption.

If passed, House Bill 109 would add Texas to a list of 19 other states that already have a "Choose Life" license plate to promote adoption.
