ShoppingThe economy isn't doing so well, the auto industry is at its low point, and many consumers across the nation are feeling the pinch in their wallets. Are Abilene residents shopping less this holiday season because of it?

The answer for the most part is no. Many shoppers are not changing the way they shop for holiday gifts because of the downturn in the economy. Some consumers even say they are shopping even more because of the bargains stores are having.

"The economy hasn't affected us much. We haven't really adjusted our spending, we spend a little more this year than last year actually because of the sales," said Christenna Ritter of Abilene.

While shoppers like Christenna say they will continue shopping and buy the gadgets, electronics, and toys their loved ones want, some consumers are saying the needs this year are more important than the wants.

"We are focusing on the things the kids need instead of just what they want like toys, " said Angela Ingalls of Abilene.

Kayla Ingalls, daughter of Angela Ingalls says the economy has taken away some of her Christmas presents, vacations, and road trips and sums up the economy, "it will get worse before it gets better."
