'Flying J' Files for Bankruptcy

By: Laura Kellerman/RNS
Updated: December 22, 2008
A popular truck stop company has filed for bankruptcy.

Ogden-based Flying J. Incorporated filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization this morning, citing a cash shortage brought on by plummeting oil prices and problems getting credit.

The company operates 250 travel plazas and fuel stations nationwide, including a location on I-20 in Tye. The filing includes Flying J Inc. and its Big West refining and Longhorn Pipeline subsidiaries only. No other subsidiaries or affiliates, including the Company’s Canadian operations, were included in the filing or are subject to the reorganization proceedings.

The company says all of its operations will remain open as the company restructures.

Flying J is one of the largest privately held companies in the U.S., with sales exceeding $16 billion in 2007.
