Growth of the wind power industry may be slower next year due to the current state of the economy.  Despite a strong and record year for the wind power industry in the United States, the recession is forecast to slow growth next year.

Several wind farm developers have noted they will begin cutting back development and laying off workers next year due the economic recession. Florida Power and Light which operates the Horse Hollow Wind Farm to the south and west of Abilene has also noted it will slow down in 2009 as well.

Many wind farm projects in the works were financed by institutions that have collapsed due to the recession.
