Christmas is a time for giving; so why not use this time of year to give back to the environment.
"Recycle Christmas," a holiday themed recycling event, is once again being hosted by Abilene's Solid Waste Service Division.
Abilenians are encouraged to bring in both their live and artificial Christmas trees, as well as any wrapping paper or cardboard boxes.
Before bringing in the trees, the Environmental Recycling Center requests that citizens remove any lights, tinsel, decorations or bases.
The live trees will then be turned into mulch which will be free to anyone starting February 3rd at the ERC as long as supplies last.
The live Christmas trees may be dropped off at any of 3 locations:
1. Environmental Recycling Center at 2209 Oak Street.
2. Buffalo Gap Road & Rebecca Lane neighborhood recycling drop-off site, under the water tower.
3. Vacant lot north of KRBC/KTAB TV studios on Hartford Road. Entry must be made from Hartford Road.
Interested citizens may drop-off their live trees from December 26th through January 9th.
The ERC is open regularly Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
