Senior Santa A Success

"Its a surprise... it means a lot, thank you," said one lucky senior. A program called Santa for Seniors has brought the Abilene community together to buy gifts for the senior citizens of Abilene, who may be forgotten around the Holidays. "Its just very rewarding to see them light up whenever they get a gift, said Rea Barry, a correspondent with DAD. "It may be the only gift they get and it may be the only one of two to just say Merry Christmas to them... some of them have no families." And it means the world to the seniors. Cristi Bridge, with Adult Protective Services, said "it feels really good to be able to let them know that we care that theyre not forgotten and we remember them." And this year, many seniors will be graced with gifts. "Weve been really overwhelmed with the community response to this program, said Derral Reed, owner of Home Instead. "Even with the economic conditions, the way they are, people have still been willing to give and weve actually had a record year of people giving and were hopefully going to reach more and more seniors this year."
