Drunk Driving Crackdown

By: Sgt. H.K. Shackleford, Abilene PD
Updated: December 29, 2008
Over the weekend, Officer McGrew was dispatched to a check welfare call in the 3600 block of Buffalo Gap road. Citizens had called in reference to a subject who was stumbling in the roadway. Officer McGrew contacted a 49 year old white male who was very intoxicated and an obvious danger to himself. The subject was arrested for Public Intoxication.

Officer Becker stopped a vehicle in the 300 block of Grape for swerving into oncoming traffic. The driver, a 47 year old white male, was intoxicated and was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated.

During the New Year Holiday, we will be conducting the DWI "No Refusal" program. In this program, if an intoxicated driver refuses to provide a breath specimen, a search warrant will be applied for to take a blood specimen. Please, don't drink and drive.
