Brownwood Cable Deal Reached

Wednesday afternoon, KRBC-TV announced the stations had reached an agreement to remain part of the Brownwood Cable Service lineup into 2009.

"We reached a verbal agreement with Brownwood Cable," said KTAB-KRBC General Manager Eric Thomas. "We're excited that our stations will still be serving those customers."

Until today, station management made numerous efforts but had trouble reaching officials with the cable company. Because the sides had been unable to reach a retransmission agreement, it was possible customers would lose KRBC on Thursday morning.

Retransmission fights are becoming more and more common among stations and carriers. Viacom Inc and Time Warner Cable are currently in a standoff. If a deal isn't reached by late Wednesday, more than 13 million subscribers could lose programming like "Dora the Explorer" and Jon Stewart's "The Daily Show".

According to Reuters, at issue is an extra $35 million to $40 million that Viacom wants Time Warner to pay for carrying its cable channels, including MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon.

Dallas ABC affiliate WFAA has been involved in a bitter retransmission battle with Charter Cable. Those sides reached an agreement earlier this week.
