It's a day to celebrate the New Year and with the celebrations many decide to have a few drinks.

Sgt. Doug Wrenn, from the Abilene Police Department , is warning  drivers tonight not to get behind the wheel intoxicated.

"You need to ask yourself, can you afford a DWI and can you live with yourself if you injury or kill someone," said Sgt. Wrenn.

In October 2006, two young men lost their lives. Bryce Kennedy and Zach Robinson were killed by a drunk driver, their friend, Taylor Jones. Jones was driving at high speeds when he lost control of the vehicle crashing into a tree. Jones survived and is currently incarcerated.

Zach Robinson's father, Matt Robinson says the tragic loss his family has dealt with has been hard, but faith has helped them get through it.

Sgt. Wrenn says in 2007, 521drunk drivers were arrested and 577 in 2008 in Abilene. He also states that 40% of fatal accidents in 2008, were caused by intoxicated drivers and 3/4 of the fatalities were the drunk drivers that died.

The tree on Clack is a reminder to those who drive by that one bad choice can change the lives of so many.
